Expert advice at compost clinics
A series of compost clinics, where experts will be on hand to give help and advice, are taking place in Gloucestershire during Compost Awareness Week (May 2nd – 8th).
Gloucestershire County Council is encouraging people to try out composting and help divert waste from landfill.
There is a wide range of waste that you can put in your compost bin.
Garden waste, tea bags, vegetable peelings, coffee grounds, cardboard, shredded paper, eggshells, tissues and paper napkins can all be composted - in total around a third of what gets thrown into a typical household bin.
Are the contents of your compost bin too wet or dry? Are you putting enough greens and browns in your bin? If you have any questions regarding composting, then pay a visit to one of our compost clinics:-
Tuesday May 4th – Highfield Garden Centre, Bristol Road, Whitminster GL2 7PB, from 10am – 2pm.
Friday May 7th – Gloucester B&Q store, Gloucester, St Oswald’s Road GL1 2SG, from 10am – 2pm.
Saturday May 8th – Cheltenham B&Q store, Golden Valley Retail Park, Hatherley Lane, GL51 6SY from 10am – 2pm.
Cllr Stan Waddington, cabinet member for environment said: “A huge amount of uncooked food gets thrown away every day, as well as other general household waste, and much of this could easily be composted.
“For households in England this amounts to around four million tonnes worth every year.
“We need to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill, and home composting will help us achieve our target of a combined recycling and composting rate of at least 60 per cent by 2020.”
