Don't bin it, bring it! Campaign

Christmas lights

Do you have a small electrical item that’s lost its spark?!

On average every Gloucestershire home has at least 3 old broken or unwanted small electrical items such as hair dryers, kettles or old mobile phones.

These items contain valuable plastics and metals. Precious finite metals (those that have a more limited supply) include gold, silver, copper and indium (used in liquid crystal displays).

The good news is that such items can be recycled at your local household recycling centre.

Can I recycle it?

Ask these simple questions...

• Does it have a plug?
• Does it use batteries?
• Does it need charging?
• Does it have the crossed-out wheelie bin logo on it?
If you can answer "YES" to any of the above, you can recycle it.

Retailer "take-back" schemes
Just as some retailers collect your old appliances for recycling, a number of them will also accept your old small electricals for recycling in store when you buy new ones. For example, mobile phone retailers may take your old phone back or provide you with a post bag to send the phone off to be reconditioned or recycled.
