Kitchen waste

Food waste being scooped into a kitchen caddy

What kitchen waste can be composted?

Any organic matter can be composted, but it is best to stick with vegetable matter, such as coffee grounds, fruit and vegetable peelings, and salad leaves. You should avoid adding animal products to your compost bin, as meat and dairy products could attract scavengers, the only exception is egg shells, these are great for enriching your compost.

Storing kitchen waste

To avoid having to venture outside every time you have food scraps to compost, and to stop your kitchen from smelling like rotten food, you may need a container to store your kitchen waste.

How do I buy a compost bin?

You can find out how to order your compost bin by visiting our compost bin page. For much more information about composting you can visit the recycle now website.
